Last Thursday, Kelly, Erin and myself met at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment for a Kick Off Party for the National Area Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes! We had a great time touring the museum - and at the end we headed downstairs to the main event. As part of the event, we made our way around to five stations where we learned a little more about the different parts of the walks happening in October, including the Youth Ambassador program and the Red Striders. During part of the program, we heard from Youth Ambassador Evelyn and other team captains for the Walk. It's amazing to hear how so many lives have been touched by diabetes in different ways. I personally have lost my uncle to diabetes and have several family members living with the disease on a daily basis. I'm proud to have ODAC be involved with the Walk to Stop Diabetes in October. For more photos, visit ADA DC Metro Area on Facebook.
Our Walk Captain, Kelly, has set up our team page, which you can find at http://main.diabetes.org/goto/agdodc. There you can sign up for the walk or sponsor one of our walkers. The team is open to all sisters, friends and family.
If you aren't up to walking or wish to contribute in other ways, contact myself, Heather, at odacagd@gmail.com to be part of the volunteer team for the day of the walk.
As a team, we'll be ordering t-shirts to show Alpha Gam's commitment to Defeat Diabetes! (Below is a proof only - not the final shirt or design)
Each shirt will be $15 and they are unisex sizing. If you are interested in ordering a t-shirt, please contact us at odacagd@gmail.com with your shirt size.
