When is International Badge Day this year? Monday, March 5, 2012. When did International Badge Day start? The celebration to honor sisterhood was started in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference. The date is generally recognized during March, which is also National Women’s History Month and set aside for International Women’s Day. The inaugural campaign was titled: “It’s as Simple as Wearing your Pin … With Pride.” Who started this tradition? The creation of this event was the idea of a sorority woman. In the spring 1996 issue of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s “The Phoenix,” Nora M. Ten Broeck wrote an article titled: “A Simple Solution — Wear Your Membership Badge Today.” The article described her personal experience of wearing her sorority pin to work one day. How can I participate? Whether you’re an alumnae or living on campus, you can join us in the celebration. Organize an event for your colleagues, ask your mayor to issue a proclamation in recognition of International Badge

Support an extraordinary group of Alpha Gamma Deltas by becoming a Pearl Sister! Once our colonization recruitment events are held at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn and Long Island, New York, a list of our new members and their hometowns will be compiled. We will match each new member up with an alumna volunteer who will encourage her throughout her new member period. Pearl Sisters do not need to live close to the colony in order to participate. Communication can be anything from chatting on Facebook or Twitter to sending her cards, emails or phone calls. This is a great opportunity to convey that an Alpha Gam sister is always close! The Northern Virginia Alumnae Panhellenic Association (NVAPA) is proud to announce the Woman of Distinction Award. We have realized for many years the dedication and service many woman provide their sorority, community and profession. This is our way of recognizing and honoring them for their efforts. This award will be presented to the woman who has best demonstrated a commitment to the Panhellenic ideals through her sorority involvement and service to her community. The nominee may be any member of your alumnae chapter or a member of another local NPC Greek woman. You may nominate more than one woman for consideration. The forms for this year have been redesigned and we hope that you will find them easy to use. Please familiarize yourself with these new formats and make sure to follow all directions.
