Tonja Eagan Named CEO and Executive Director of The Leadership Institute- Women with Purpose

The Leadership Institute-Women with Purpose, Inc. is pleased to announce the selection of Tonja Eagan, a native of Indianapolis and experienced nonprofit executive leader, as the new CEO and Executive Director, effective June 1, 2012.

Eagan says, “Women’s leadership is integral to my life as I have benefitted from mentors and experiences that have taught me that a woman has the right and responsibility to achieve her fullest potential. The Leadership Institute – Women With Purpose is becoming the premier national leadership organization providing quality leadership training to women. I am honored to be part of a team who believes every woman has the potential to develop into a strong leader.”

Eagan earned a Master’s in Public Affairs from the Center on Philanthropy & School of Public and Environmental Affairs of Indiana University. As a credentialed Certified Fund Raising Executive she has extensive fundraising and consulting experience and has led nationally renowned programs and agencies. Eagan previously served as the National Vice President of Program Services for the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance in Kansas City, Missouri, providing services to 85 universities nationwide to certify students for careers in the nonprofit sector. In 2001 Eagan returned to Indiana to become the President & CEO of Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis, an organization that inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Prior to joining The Leadership Institute, Eagan served as the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana.

In 2006, Eagan was honored as a Forty Under 40 leader by the Indianapolis Business Journal, for being one of the top 40 leaders in central Indiana under the age of 40. She is a recent graduate of The Lacy Leadership Association. This spring she was honored with the Hine Medal from Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI), the highest honor bestowed upon an alumnus, and also received the IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Award.

“Leadership development and mentoring for youth and adults has been a theme throughout my career. I have been matched as a Big Sister to 13-year old Brenai for 5 years and it is one of my greatest joys. I look forward to developing many more strong relationships with strong women in my role with The Leadership Institute.”
