THE LI TAKES HOME “EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AWARD”

The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose (The LI) took home the
“Excellence in Educational Programming Award” for its Barriers to Facilitation workshop from The Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA) Annual Meeting, which concluded in Phoenix, Ariz., on Dec. 4.

According to the AFA website, the purpose of the “Excellence in Educational Programming Award” is to recognize new and innovative programs. Three awards are presented for educational programming efforts each year. The categories include one for a fraternal organization for efforts directed to undergraduate or alumni members, one for a campus-based program for new and innovative educational efforts, and one to an Associate member organization for educational efforts, which is the segment in which The LI was awarded.

“This award is a tremendous honor for us and a huge win for our organization,” said Executive Director of The LI Erin Correa. “I would like to recognize our staff for the great work they put in to the creation of the Barriers to Facilitation program. Their work is tireless, professional and makes me incredibly proud to work alongside each of them. In addition to the work of The LI staff, we owe an abundance of thanks to
our Board of Directors and volunteers for all their help and encouragement. Finally, we continue to be incredibly grateful to Alpha Gamma Delta and the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation for their vision and on-going support for our organization.”

The application for the award included general information on the workshop, availability to various markets, history of the course’s creation, documentation of the goals, objectives and learning outcomes of the program, knowledge of how the workshop correlates with the mission of the organization, and the ability to share how evaluations are conducted and individual outcomes from the course. In addition, the full course was submitted electronically to the AFA for review.

“[The AFA Annual Meeting] has been a reminder for us of how far we have come as an organization and how much we have grown in a few short years,” Correa said. “Being recognized as a leader in educational programming is a memory we will not soon forget.”

Since the award submittal, The LI has created a workshop, which builds off of the award-winning Barriers to Facilitation. The new Barriers to Facilitation: Train the Trainer program allows top organizational educators to become certified to train facilitators to conquer the seven common fears of facilitation. The new program enhances the idea that both quality information and a well-trained facilitator make for the most effective learning environment.
